Osmetech plc, the international diagnostics group, has this week exhibited two new products for its OPTI range of blood gas and electrolyte testing products at the American Association of Clinical Chemists Conference (AACC) in Orlando , US .

OPTI R is a blood gas and electrolyte analyser with reusable consumable designed for higher volume users. The second product, OPTI LION is a device for the fast and cost-effective testing of electrolytes only. Both products are scheduled for worldwide launch in Q4 2005, with OPTI LION requiring FDA 510k pre-marketing approval for sale in the US .

James White , Chief Executive of Osmetech plc said, 'The market testing we have done with our major distribution partners and customers in the US , Asia and Europe indicates strong demand for both of these products in near patient care settings such as the emergency room, operating theatres and intensive care units. Osmetech OPTI R analyser : Based upon our well established and successful Critical Care Analyser (CCA), this enables customers to perform up to 50 tests form a single consumable over a 7 day period.

Osmetech OPTI LION : This is a low cost instrument for electrolyte only testing in near patient care settings.
